A few months ago I had the privilege of doing a radio show with Dr. John Neyman. He recently wrote a book about Anxiety called; “The Neyman Strategy”.
In his book, he extends several options for his readers to transform anxiety in their lives. One of these techniques is to do what is called tactical breathing. One breaths in for a certain number of seconds, holds for the same amount of time and exhales, again, at the same allotted time.
I told the listeners how easy and effective it would be to add a central nervous system calming essential oil to that practice. It is as simple as opening your favorite bottle of Lavender, Neroli, Bergamot or Ylang Ylang, etc. and inhaling.
As you inhale any of these essential oils, they exponentially further the sedation that is achieved by just deep breathing alone.
This is just one simple way to add relaxation to a stressful situation. Start to pause and insert a strategy like this into your routine. Maybe it is at work, maybe it is dealing with family relationships, maybe it is getting through the “piranha hour” with the children! Small shifts like this in our thinking and actions can have revolutionary effects on our emotional and physical health.
Try this suggestion in your day and journal about it for a few weeks. Gauge your anxiety when you begin the two week period and gauge your anxiety after you have completed a few weeks and see if your anxiety has decreased.
